Friendship for children with Autism
Thursday, August 5, 2010
Friendship plays an important part in everyone’s life. It is not mere a relationship. It teaches many social skills as well. Friendship becomes relatively more important in children with Autism. As a common feature these children are poor in social and communicative skills so most of time they do not have friends or can’t maintain a friendship. Friendship teaches us to think about the world in a “relative” and not absolute manner.
Most of the parents of the children with Autism desperately search for friends for their children. They feel that the things would have been better if their children could have friends. But, there are no shortcuts or different methods of having and keeping friends. What matter are the social skills or socialization.
- Instrumental skills
- Relationship skills
